Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis has been cleared to practice in the team’s minicamps after concussion problems last season.
The team brought in some of the top medical experts in the country to evaluate Portis and found that it is safe for him to return to football.
The running back was injured in a helmet-to-helmet collision around the midseason point and suffered from dizzyness and blurred vision for several weeks thereafter.
He did not return to action after the hit and was contemplating retirement in the offseason.
Portis will have to compete for the starting running back position this year now that the team has signed both Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.

Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell has signed his $3.1 million tender offer from the team.
Signing the tender was just a formality for Campbell, who almost certainly will not return to the team next year.
Once the Redskins traded for veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb, Campbell’s future with the team came to an end.
The quarterback wants to be a starter somewhere and was very angry that he heard the McNabb trade news from a reporter first and not the team.
Campbell also has not been attending the voluntary workouts held by the team, which is no surprise.

The Washington Redskins have signed veteran running back Willie Parker to a one-year contract worth $3.1 million.
The move adds another running back to an already crowded backfield situation in Washington.
It seems that Mike Shanahan is in favor of bringing in veteran running backs and seeing which one produces best in his system.
The team already had Clinton Portis, who is slowing down but had success previously with Shanahan in Denver.
The Redskins also recently signed Larry Johnson, who has ties to the Washington, D.C. area.

The Washington Redskins have acquired star quarterback Donovan McNabb from the Philadelphia Eagles.
In exchange, the Redskins will send this year’s second round pick and next year’s third or fourth rounder to the Eagles.
It is a move that instantly solves the quarterback situation, as McNabb will clearly be named the starter.
It also means that the Redskins won’t be looking to draft a quarterback with the fourth overall pick.
Instead, Washington can look to bring in an offensive lineman who could protect their new signal caller.

The Washington Redskins have signed free agent cornerback Phillip Buchanon to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The former first-round draft pick will now play for his fifth team during his nine years in the league.
With DeAngelo Hall and Carlos Rogers projected to start, Buchanon will see a reduction in playing time.
That said, Rogers hasn’t exactly been a mainstay himself given his inconsistency, which could open the door for Buchanon to eventually start.
