Redskins want Bradford

With a month and a half until the NFL Draft, it seems that the Washington Redskins are pretty certain that they want to select quarterback Sam Bradford.

The good news is that they know what they want to do with the No. 6 overall pick. The bad news is that it’s looking less likely that he will be available when it’s their turn to draft.

The St. Louis Rams appear to be leading toward taking Bradford now with the No. 1 overall pick for signability and money reasons.

Quarterback Jimmy Clausen would likely still be on the board at No. 6, and he could be a tempting selection for the Redskins.

It’s clear that new head coach Mike Shanahan wants to bring in his franchise quarterback this year and start the development process.

Samuels set to retire

Washington Redskins left tackle Chris Samuels is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL.

The announcement comes as no surprise as the six-time Pro Bowler fought a serious neck injury.

The team was hopeful he might be able to make a comeback, but have anticipated his retirement for several months.

Neck specialists had advised Samuels to quit, making his situation different than that of Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed.

It’s a tough situation for the Redskins, who now must fill another huge need on a team that already has a ton of holes.
