Zorn still confident in Campbell

Former Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn said he still believes quarterback Jason Campbell can be very good.

Zorn said that Campbell needs to continue to improve while being given a better skill-set around him to work with.

He said that the Redskins need to work on giving him an offensive line that can protect him and a running game to lean on.

The former coach said he was proud of the way Campbell played but didn’t want to bash other players and make excuses for the team’s struggles.

Zorn is focused these days on finding a new job and is interviewing with the Baltimore Ravens to be their next quarterbacks coach.

Can Shanahan make difference with Redskins?

There is a lot of excitement in Redskins country right now, but it remains to be seen whether it’s legit or not.

New head coach Mike Shanahan brings two Super Bowl rings and a lot of wins with him, but his final years in Denver did not end well.

Shanahan couldn’t put together a defense that could stop anyone, and his offense was inconsistent at best.

If Shanahan was just the head coach in Washington, then maybe there would be less to worry about.

The fact that he has complete control over personnel decisions has to make one wonder if this all won’t end like it did in Denver.

Redskins coach Bugel retiring

Washington Redskins offensive line coach Joe Bugel has announced that he will retire.

Bugel is one of the most famous and well-liked coaches in Washington history despite only working with the offensive line.

He was most well known for his work with the “Hogs”, the offensive line that helped lead the Redskins to a couple of Super Bowls.

With a new coaching staff coming in, it seems that Bugel knew he probably wouldn’t be back anyway.

A number of the players spent the past couple of weeks trying to convince Bugel to return for another season, but to no avail.

Redskins hire Shanahan

The Washington Redskins have annouced that they have hired Mike Shanahan to be their next head coach.

Shanahan was given a five-year deal by the team. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The next step for Shanahan and the Redskins is for the new head coach to begin filling out his staff.

It is expected that Shanahan’s first hire will be his son Kyle as the offensive coordinator. He currently holds the same position with the Houston Texans.

Shanahan is said to be high on Cincinnati defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, but will not be able to talk to him until their team is eliminated from the playoffs.

Redskins fire Zorn

As expected, the Washington Redskins have fired embattled head coach Jim Zorn.

New general manager Bruce Allen said that the status quo was unacceptable and it was time to move in another direction.

Zorn spent two years as the head coach of the Redskins and was initially hired as the offensive coordinator.

He struggled during both seasons, and eventually was forced to give up his offensive play calling duties.

He also faced criticism from some of the players, most notably Clinton Portis and Albert Haynesworth.

Redskins fall to Chargers, 23-20

The Washington Redskins made an upset bid but fell short like so many other times this year in a 23-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

In what was almost certainly head coach Jim Zorn’s last game, the Redskins put up a strong fight.

The team actually played better when the Chargers had their starters in the game than when they put their reserves in.

Quietly, quarterback Jason Campbell put together another good effort, throwing for 281 yards and two touchdowns.

Deciding what to do about Campbell will be a top priority this offseason for Washington.

Fletcher fined for hit on Crayton

Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for his hit on Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton in last week’s game.

The first quarter collision involved Fletcher using a forearm to Crayton’s chin-strap to take him down.

The wide receiver slowly made his way to the sidelines without any help from trainers or teammates and was later able to return to the game.

While it was a questionable hit by Fletcher, it seems like you get fined for making routine tackles these days in the NFL. This was a rivalry game, and nasty collisions are going to happen.

I’m all for the league trying their best to protect the players, but they need to careful not to go too far. It is football after all, and players are going to get hurt now and again. It’s part of the game.

Redskins fall to Cowboys, 17-0

The Washington Redskins put forth a better effort this week but it wasn’t near enough in a 17-0 loss to the rival Dallas Cowboys.

It seemed that the fierce rivalry with the Cowboys ensured that the Redskins came up with a lot more fire than last week.

Nonetheless, the offense was once again a complete disgrace and could never seem to get anything going.

Quarterback Jason Campbell was getting killed time and again as his offensive line continued to crumble around him.

The Redskins have just one more game remaining, and then look for major shakeups to get underway.
